Ep. 02 Being Brave With Abbie McG: Matthew Francis of Freedom to Flourish

March 14, 2017

Allow me to introduce you to Matthew Francis, an incredible man who Matthew Francis launched his career as a public speaker when he shared his cancer/survivorship story for the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine's grand expansion back in 2013. During this time, Matthew still was pretending to live as a woman; he transitioned from female to male in August of 2013. Matthew now shares his transition testimony in many faith-based forums, educational and mental health agencies. Matthew lives on the principle that everyone deserves to be safe, feel included, and be treated with decency. We are all in this together. He currently speaks and trains mental health professionals on issues of trauma, mental illness and transgender awareness, and his newly-released book, "My Resurrected Spirit," is available on Matthew hails from Louisville Kentucky, and now lives in Falmouth, Maine.

We’ll talk about the myth of warrior-style bravery and give you a different picture of what living a brave life really looks like. See, I’ve come to realize that there’s a myth about bravery - that bravery looks strong, fierce and warrior-like - and I want to show listeners that bravery is not only about exhibiting strength, but also about authenticity (being who you REALLY are), setting boundaries (knowing what your value is), and acknowledging fear and vulnerability (showing emotions and talking about your story). I’ve seen time and time again that when we get to know ourselves, share our stories, and allow ourselves to be vulnerable as well as strong, we come out more courageous on the other side.

It is my hope that the stories shared on "Being Brave With Abbie McG" will inspire you to push through the doubt, believe in your authentic self, and become just a little more brave with your own life.
